Preparing the next generation of arts leaders: Silkroad Internship

Art Overcomes Banners (1).jpg

The Silkroad Internship Program is a five-month remote, paid professional development experience designed to prepare emerging arts professionals with fluency in non-profit arts administration and leadership.

Each intern specializes in a different department, working closely with their mentor and supervisor to play an active role in the growth of Silkroad. Interns also engage in regular seminars led by Silkroad staff, offering multidisciplinary skills and tools that span across the arts administration field. The internship program is designed to create a holistic and expansive view of the many facets of Silkroad and non-profit administration while remaining flexible and responsive to the needs, interests, and aspirations of the interns. With a commitment to systemic allyship and the diversification of the non-profit arts sector, we welcome applications from all eligible individuals, and particularly encourage applications from those most marginalized in our society – including people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and people with disabilities.

Silkroad is an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of actual or perceived race, creed, color, religion, alienage or national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, age, disability or handicap, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), marital status, veteran status, genetic information, arrest record, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state or local laws.

This internship has opened doors for me and has effectively helped start my life

As a social impact organization and home to the Grammy Award-winning musical ensemble, Silkroad works to inspire collaboration in innovative ways that add more equity and justice into the world through the power of the arts. Artistic Director Rhiannon Giddens has had a lifelong mission of shining light on previously under-recognized voices and overhauling our understanding of the history of American music to make it reflect the real impact people of all colors have made.

Our internship program celebrates the inherent talent and artistry of young professionals, creating a platform upon which to build their careers. Join us in diversifying the arts sector and providing opportunities for the next generation of arts leaders.
